Meresha - Acid Bass

Elements of alternative, electronic, rock, pop, R&B and rap permeate the sound of the US-based musician known simply as Meresha. Describing music as “…my way of taking over the world”, Meresha was first inspired to pursue her own musical dreams some years ago when she got massively into Paramore. This saw her attend no less than six shows including the front of the mosh pit at the House of Blues. Meresha wasn’t only hooked on Paramore it seems, but the industry as a whole. Music is also a place for Meresha to put in all of her creativity and energy that she seems to possess. Like most, she also finds music the best escape and loves discovering new sounds.

Meresha’s current influences include Disclosure, FKA Twigs, Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus and James Blake. These sit alongside the classics such as Freddie Mercury, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Of Zeppelin in particular, Meresha has several covers for your viewing pleasure on her YouTube channel.  These influences and the aforementioned genres that permeate her music can be heard in her catchy track called Acid Bass that is in response to Meresha’s love of some great original electronic music that she has heard around the traps.

Of the track, Meresha says “Acid Bass is a celebration of this music and a new revolution”. It is a nod to the past; the song was played on some of the original electronic instruments like Moog synths. In fact, Meresha is still looking for a huge modular synthesiser to use in the background for a future video. Including Acid Bass and others yet to be heard, Meresha takes song writing inspiration from a range of places – daily experiences, other music, art and simply things she witnesses on the street. The songs themselves start in different places differentiating from a particular instrument to the lyrics. Meresha has in fact written down many ideas over the years that may one day fashion themselves into fully-fledged songs.

Meresha is actually pretty unique in her own way of course. She is mainly a vocalist, but she’s also accomplished on the guitar, piano and drums. She also writes the lyrics and music and plays all the sounds. She is the very definition of an independent artist. People were able to witness this last year when Meresha was able to play to the people who supported her crowd-funded EP called Lunatic. She is taking things one step at a time with her career with a view to one day being able to build a sustainable life as a musician. If that all goes to plan; Meresha hopes to play gigs internationally and connect with fans in many places.  She is releasing song by song for the time being with Vida being the latest release via Soundcloud. There will also eventually be an accompanying video to the track. There might also be another EP release before the year is out that will then see Meresha hit the live circuit once more.
